My works are spaces of nostalgia. Familiar subjects nestled within ambiguous alcoves create visual comfort, while layers of process involving addition and subtraction of material lend aesthetic complexity as well as literal and figurative depth. My oil paintings on canvas and assemblages created with fabric, bleach, paint, and oftentimes wax are all reminiscent of each other, revealing and concealing evidence of processes that allow the artwork to unfold as it is created with quite often unexpected results. In my work I strive to explore different planes of space that different values and variations of color create, with fibers or oil on canvas. In addition, the variety of materials shown in some of my pieces granted me many unique textures to add interest, variety, and also provide my pieces with feelings of time and environment despite their abstract nature. Created initially as very personal and emotional, I have discovered many concepts within my work that do not only embody these notions, but also convey universal emotional and nostalgic characteristics. Born out of grief, my earlier works are mostly melancholy. Wistfulness and contemplation have brought a particular earnestness to my recent work.
